Hoffenheim coach Markus Babbel has again omitted Dutch striker Ryan Babel from his squad, after explaining he has not been happy with the player’s application in training.

Babel did not feature in Hoffenheim’s 4-0 win over Hamburg in midweek and will play no part against Freiburg on Sunday.

Coach Babbel has insisted that he needs to see more effort from the former Liverpool man in training in a clear message that Babel cannot take his spot in the side for granted.

"He must give everything for the team", said the former Hertha Berlin boss to Bild.

"And we have not seen that this week", he added.

Babel’s performances in the Bundesliga this season have been disappointing, with just four goals scored in 27 league games.

His contract with Hoffenheim expires in 2013 and the 25-year-old could be sold in the summer.
