AC Milan have approached Manchester City with a view to taking Serbian full back Aleksandar Kolarov on loan for next season, according to Sky Sport.

Kolarov’s stock remains sky high in Serie A due to an impressive spell with Lazio before Manchester City swooped in to sign the defender in 2010 for a whopping £16M.

Throughout the season the defender has been consistently linked with a return to Italy, where, in addition to Milan, Inter and Juventus are also known to be keen.

Indeed, the arrival of Frenchman Gael Clichy at Manchester City last summer and the decrease in first team football this meant for Kolarov – just 12 games played in the 2011/12 Premier League – has led to Italy’s finest believing the defender may now be available.

At Milan money is thought to be tight this summer, yet with the departures of Alessandro Nesta, Mark van Bommel, Gennaro Gattuso, Filippo Inzaghi and Clarence Seedorf, more bodies are needed to fill holes in coach Massimilano Allegri’s squad.

Whether Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is ready to part with Kolarov however, remains to be seen, as the Serbian remains a fan favourite at Eastlands.
