Young Dutch striker Luuk de Jong wants to move from FC Twente to a bigger league, his agent Louis Laros has claimed.

Two clubs have bid for the 21-year-old, English Premier League outfit Newcastle United and Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach.

Neither however are thought to have met the asking price Twente have slapped on De Jong’s head and despite Newcastle sending a delegation to Holland to negotiate directly for the striker, Tukkers’ coach Steve McClaren has gone on record as warning that the side’s prize asset does not need to be sold.

But while there may be no financial pressure on Twente to sell De Jong, the player’s representative has indicated that a different kind of pressure, from the forward himself, may be applied.

"Luuk has taken the decision", Laros told TC Tubantia.

"He wants to develop himself further in a bigger league.

"The important thing for us is from the sporting perspective of Luuk. Not the money, but the way he will play and the amount of playing time he will get. This will be decisive."

McClaren has also claimed that De Jong needs another season in Dutch football to continue his development and now is too soon to make the leap abroad. It is a point of view with which Laros does not agree.

"Luuk played for the Dutch national team last season and scored 25 goals in the Eredivisie. What more can he do? Score 35? Luuk has done it in Holland."

The following days look set to be crucial in determining De Jong’s future and several other clubs are watching developments closely, including Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Benfica.
