Salomon Kalou has expressed his delight after inking a four-year contract with French side Lille.

The Ivorian striker had been a free agent since Chelsea released him at the end of June, and chose to sign on the dotted line for Rudi Garcia’s men.

Kalou had been heavily linked with remaining in the English Premier League, where Fulham, Liverpool and Newcastle were all mooted as holding a serious interest in the former Feyenoord hitman.

But it is Ligue 1 which will offer Kalou his next adventure and the forward could not be happier.

"The project of Lille I saw as attractive. Also, because there is a new stadium coming too", said Kalou.

"The club is ambitious and I am here to have fun.

"Lille is certainly nothing less than a top club."

Kalou will be charged will helping to fill the void left by Lille’s €40M sale of Eden Hazard, who has landed at the Ivorian’s old club, Chelsea.
