Shakhtar Donetsk manager Mircea Lucescu has confirmed that the Ukrainian club have rejected a bid from Chelsea for Brazilian playmaker Willian and insists the Champions League winners want to pay less for the 23-year-old because he plays in Eastern Europe.

The Romanian tactician claims that Shakhtar’s management have shunned a €33M offer from the English side for the attacking midfielder as it falls short of the club’s valuation of the player.

Lucescu spoke about the bid in an interview with Dolce Sport and admitted that the Ukrainian giants are ready to sell Willian, but only for the right price.

"I told Willian he can leave, but only if the right offer is made”, said the 66-year-old Romanian.

Lucescu also opined that Willian is actually a better player than Eden Hazard and that when the Stamford Bridge outfit have spent an astounding €40M on the Belgian, the Blues should be ready to spend a similar amount on the talented Brazilian.

“They paid a lot of money for Hazard but are not willing to pay the same for Willian, even though he is better in my opinion”, said Lucescu.

The manager added that the current offer from the London-based club is not good enough and is lower than Shakhtar’s valuation of the 23-year-old.

“Chelsea want to buy the Brazilian but have made an offer that is for the Eastern European market. They offered €33M but we do not think that is his current value”, said the former Besiktas boss.

It appears Roberto Di Matteo’s men remain very interested in capturing the signature of the Brazilian, a player the Blues tried to buy in the January transfer window under Andre Villas-Boas, even after having snapped up the likes of Eden Hazard and Marko Marin this summer.

However, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be ready to spend more than €33M on another attacking midfielder.
