Internacional have ended AC Milan’s hopes of signing Leandro Damiao by insisting that the striker is not for sale.

Milan have held talks with Damiao’s agent as they look to find a big name replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has been sold to Paris Saint-Germain.

Snapping up the highly-rated 22-year-old Brazilian would be impressive business from the Rossoneri, especially considering that English Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur have had offers for the forward refused in the last 12 months.

But the player’s club side, Internacional, insist that while Milan may have held talks with Damiao’s agent, that does not mean a deal is on the cards.

"In our opinion there is no room to negotiate because we want to keep the player at the club", said Internacional president Giovanni Luigi.

"Milan may have spoken with his agent, but they know that they must first speak to us.

"When they speak to us we will tell them that we do not want to talk about a transfer. The player is not for sale, so it makes no sense for us to stick a price on his head."
