Luka Modric has failed to join his Tottenham Hotspur team-mates at the airport to fly to the club’s pre-season tour of the United States, in a bid to force through a switch to Real Madrid.

According to Madrid-based daily Marca, Modric has chosen to stay put in London, rather than fly out today with Andre Villas-Boas’ men, as he attempts to exert pressure on Spurs to finally agree a deal with Los Blancos.

Real Madrid have been chasing Modric for most of the summer and are not far off coming to an agreement with Spurs – the talks though have been dragging on, with the English Premier League outfit ready to make the Spanish giants wait until 31st August to sign the playmaker.

Spurs remain determined to extract the best possible deal for Modric, but the player himself is growing increasingly desperate to join up with Jose Mourinho’s squad.

The Spanish champions have already agreed the terms of a contract with Modric and now simply need to sign off a fee with Spurs.

Modric will hope that by skipping Spurs’ pre-season tour he will crank up the heat on the London giants to sell him.
