Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen are stepping up their efforts to bring Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku to the club on loan.

According to Kreiszeitung, the German club want to tempt the Belgian to the Weserstadion, but well understand that the odds are against them.

Lukaku is expected to be sent out on a season-long loan by Chelsea for the new season and the striker has a whole host of admirers.

Elsewhere in Germany, Borussia Monchengladbach have considered offering a home to the former Anderlecht star, while in Italy, Lazio would gladly take Lukaku to Serie A.

But the powerful 19-year-old is thought to prefer a move to another side in the English Premier League, believing it to be the perfect preparation for when he returns to Stamford Bridge next summer.

And to this end, it is Fulham who look to be in the driving seat.

However, if the Cottagers cannot close a deal with Chelsea, Werder Bremen will do everything possible to take the forward for the 2012/13 campaign.

Lukaku struggled for regular first team football at Stamford Bridge last season and was vocal about his disappointment at not featuring more regularly. He has accepted a loan move may be the best way forward.
