Premier League giants Arsenal are hopeful of snapping up Malaga winger Santi Cazorla soon. The Spanish side’s financial issues have played into the hands of the Gunners and Arsene Wenger may well get his man in a cut-price deal.

Wenger has been in the market for an attacking midfielder this summer in order to strengthen his squad for the upcoming season. The Gunners lacked a creative attacker who could create opportunities and bury them when needed last season, and it is believed that the French tactician has earmarked the Spanish international for the role, having made a move for him once La Rosadela outfit’s financial issues became public knowledge.

According to Spanish newspaper Vozpopuli, the Qatari-owned club’s financial troubles have helped Arsenal to negotiate a bargain transfer fee for the highly talented 27-year-old, with the Spanish winger very close to completing his transfer to the North London club; Malaga paid Villarreal €21M last year to bring Cazorla to the club.

The Spanish side, who finished fourth last season in La Liga, have been facing liquidity problems and even though the club saved itself from being demoted to Segunda Division for defaulting on payments to players, still face a poor state of financial affairs.

Moreover, owner Sheikh Al-Thani’s inability to find a suitable buyer for the Andalusian outfit has further aggravated the problem and has made top players such as Cazorla and Jeremy Toulalan consider heading for the exit door.

And according to Spanish sources, after Arsenal came calling for the former Villarreal man, the Spanish winger showed genuine interest in the Emirates outfit. Now Malaga have been left with no choice but to accept a bid from the Gunners and allow one of their finest performers to leave Manuel Pellegrini’s men.
