Jose Mourinho has paved the way for Nuri Sahin to leave Real Madrid on loan by stressing that the 23-year-old needs playing time to develop, which Los Blancos cannot currently give him.

Sahin is the subject of serious interest from English Premier League giants Arsenal, while Galatasaray are also hopeful the Turkey international will choose to land at the Turk Telekom Arena this summer.

The midfielder joined Real Madrid last year from Borussia Dortmund, but has sunk amid the fierce competition at the Bernabeu, with Mourinho understood to believe he must still mature before he is ready for a spot in the club’s engine room.

"The fact is that he is young and he wants to play every game", said Mourinho.

"But at Real, with Xabi Alonso, [Sami] Khedira, [Lassana] Diarra, [Esteban] Granero and [Mesut] Ozil, the situation is not easy."

And the former Chelsea boss insisted he is not pushing Sahin towards the exit door and is leaving the decision squarely with the player.

"The situation is in his hands. If he wants to leave, we will help him to leave. If he wants to stay, we will give him the support needed for him to succeed this season."

Sahin has managed just 128 minutes of game time in La Liga with Real Madrid, making any wish for an exit understandable.
