Former France striker Jean-Pierre Papin believes that Paris Saint-Germain have put together a “scary” team ahead of the kick-off of the new Ligue 1 season.

PSG missed out on the title last season to Rene Girard’s Montpellier and winning the domestic crown is a high priority for this campaign.

Three signings stand out above all others as a sign of just how ambitious Carlo Ancelotti and co. are – Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Thiago Silva.

For Papin it is hard to see past PSG winning Ligue 1, especially with Ibrahimovic to call upon.

“It is an advantage when you’ve got Ibrahimovic”, Papin told BEIN Sport.

“He is a player that will give so much credibility to PSG both nationally and internationally.

“He is a symbol of the change in Paris – but he is not alone.

“When you look at the rest of the team, it’s scary.”

PSG may also not have finished splashing the cash in the summer window, with an offer of €45M believed to have been made for Sao Paulo midfielder Lucas Moura.
