Chelsea have completed the signing of Spanish right-back Cesar Azpilicueta from Marseille.

The Blues have been chasing Azpilicueta for some time and negotiations with cash-strapped Marseille this summer have proven difficult.

Chelsea’s first offer for Azpilicueta was just €4M, an amount Marseille instantly rejected, with president Vincent Labrune dubbing it "no offer".

Marseille have been standing firm in their valuation of at least €8M for the 22-year-old and now there has been a breakthrough, with Chelsea confirming they have got their man.

Azpilicueta joined Marseille in 2010 from Spanish side Osasuna and was in Spain’s squad for this summer’s Olympic Games in London.

He had recently expressed his belief that a switch to a bigger club was needed if he is to be selected by Vicente del Bosque in Spain’s full international side.

Now at Champions League winners Chelsea, Azpilicueta will be in the full glare of the spotlight.
