AC Milan have been dealt a blow in the chase for striker M’Baye Niang after Caen opted to reject the Rossoneri’s proposal.

The Italian giants offered to take the 17-year-old on loan for the entire season, with a purchase option set at €3M included – and it had been reported in France that the deal was done.

Caen though have rebuffed this and now English Premier League outfit Everton are thought to be in the driving seat, with numerous sources in England claiming a €3M cash offer has been made by the Toffees for Niang, and accepted.

Milan though are not ready to give up on the forward just yet and coach Massimiliano Allegri is believed to have stressed to club officials just how useful Niang would be were he to have him at his disposal.

The Rossoneri therefore are pondering making a new offer for Niang before the transfer window closes, though it seems certain that they will have to at least match Everton’s proposal.

The 17-year-old spent time on trial with Arsenal earlier this summer, but no agreement between the Gunners and Caen was forthcoming.

Niang clocked up 23 games in Ligue 1 last season, but was unable to help keep the Normans in the French top flight.
