Swiss Super League side Sion have offered Alessandro Del Piero a contract, according to sources in Italy.

Del Piero has been without a club since ending a long association with Juventus at the end of last season, but is desperate to return to the game and extend his career.

The 37-year-old has been considering a vast amount of proposals and at times has seemed close to moving to the MLS, the Middle East or even China.

Now though the Italian forward has been offered the opportunity to continue his career with Sion, who currently lead the Swiss Super League table and have already welcomed Gennaro Gattuso into their ranks this summer.

Sion president Christian Constantin, along with club officials, have been in Turin speaking to Del Piero’s representatives to try to find an agreement.

There is believed to be another meeting between the parties set for Wednesday and there is now a very real chance the former Juventus man could land at the Swiss side.
