Anzhi Makhachkala have agreed a fee with Real Madrid for French midfielder Lassana Diarra.

According to Spanish daily AS, the wealthy Russian club have had an offer accepted by Los Blancos, who can spare Diarra for the season and also want to realise some value from a player whose contract expires next summer.

However, time is running out in the summer transfer window and it is not yet clear the deal could be done in time.

It also remains to be seen whether Diarra wants to move to Russia, although the prospect of playing alongside Samuel Eto’o and under Guus Hiddink may be a tempting one.

Diarra joined Real Madrid in 2009 from English club Portsmouth.

He started his career at French side Le Havre, but then jumped over to Chelsea in England before joining Arsenal in 2007.

Diarra has been capped by France 28 times.
