Dutch striker Ryan Babel looks set to join former club Ajax after terminating his contract at Hoffenheim.

It was made clear to Babel earlier this summer that he had no future at the Bundesliga club, with coach Markus Babbel thoroughly unconvinced of the qualities of a player signed in January 2011.

And, with just one year left on his contract, an agreement to dissolve the deal, in order to make it easier for the forward to find a new club, was thrashed out.

Now Babel is set to join the Dutch champions, a club he left to sign for Liverpool in 2007.

At Anfield, Babel struggled to make his mark and failed to establish himself as a first team regular.

His switch to Germany, in search of first team football, has also not developed in the way the 25-year-old would have wished.

He will hope for better luck in his homeland under the wing of Ajax coach Frank de Boer.
