Juventus are spying a swoop for Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, according to Italian daily Tuttosport.

Huntelaar has not yet penned a contract extension with the Ruhr giants and as such is free to sign a pre-contract agreement in January.

The Dutchman insisted as recently as 27th August that he would reach a decision over his future soon and were he to decide to ink a new deal, Juventus would undoubtedly find tempting Schalke to sell him to be mission impossible.

Schalke have stressed they appreciate the difficulty of Huntelaar’s decision as, at 29 years old, the striker’s next contract is set to be the most important of his career.

It remains to be seen whether Juventus’ interest will turn Huntelaar’s head. The Dutchman had a brief spell with AC Milan before joining Schalke and is understood to believe he was not given enough of a chance to excel in Italian football.

Nevertheless, the PSV Eindhoven youth product has expressed his happiness at Schalke and was recently delighted to see countryman Ibrahim Afellay join the club.

Huntelaar has started the new Bundesliga campaign well, scoring two goals in two games so far.
