Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has sent scouts to watch young Sassuolo striker Domenico Berardi.

According to well-connected local daily La Gazzetta di Modena, the Red Devils’ interest is known to Sassuolo, who fully expected Berardi to be followed closely by the English giants throughout the season.

Just 18 years old, the striker is enjoying his first campaign with Sassuolo’s senior side and has already found the back of the net once in Serie B, from two starts.

Berardi is highly rated by Eusebio Di Francesco’s men and the former Roma midfielder will not want to lose the talented goal-getter’s services before he has had the chance to make an impact at the Stadio Alberto Braglia.

However, should Berardi continue to impress with Sassuolo and begin to make good on his undoubted potential, then reports submitted to Ferguson by Manchester United’s scouts may persuade the Scot to act.

The forward’s talents are unlikely to have gone unnoticed elsewhere though, particularly given the extensive scouting operations of Serie A’s giants.

Ferguson has previously swooped for upcoming Italian starlets before, notably tempting Federico Macheda to swap Lazio for Manchester United in 2007.

It remains to be seen whether the legendary Scottish boss will attempt to repeat the trick with Berardi.
