Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has paid tribute to Santi Cazorla, dubbing the Spanish winger "technically perfect".

Cazorla, who arrived at the Gunners from Malaga in the summer transfer window, played all 90 minutes in Arsenal’s 6-1 demolition of Southampton in the Premier League yesterday and has been in inspired form for Wenger’s men since signing.

And the Frenchman is delighted to have captured Cazorla, believing as he does that the 27-year-old is a very, very talented performer.

"Cazorla is a player who is just a pleasure to watch. You want him to have the ball", Wenger told Arsenal’s official site.

"He typifies what Spain’s midfielders are today – he is technically perfect, he has great vision and a great team attitude."

Wenger also confirmed that he pushed to sign Cazorla from Villarreal last summer, but lost out to Malaga.

"We did fight with Malaga at the time [to get him last summer] and they were in Spain, they were quick to do the deal.

"But we remained on the ball, we were quite advanced with him last season."

Wenger will be hoping that Cazorla can continue his fine form in the Champions League, with Arsenal due to travel to face Montpellier in their first group game on Tuesday evening.
