Stephane Mbia has stoked the fires ahead of Marseille’s meeting with Paris Saint-Germain today by stating his belief that Nicolas N’Koulou is a better defender than Thiago Silva.

N’Koulou and Silva will both be hoping their respective sides can win the game which has been dubbed "Le Classique" within France and, despite PSG splashing millions to sign the Brazilian defender from AC Milan in the summer, Mbia feels the Marseille man is better.

relatedNewsStoryMbia played alongside N’Koulou before leaving the Stade Velodrome to play for English Premier League side QPR in the summer.

The Cameroonian’s eyes will be firmly fixed on "Le Classique" though.

"Nico is better because he is younger", Mbia told L’Equipe.

"He feels the game, inspires players. He is very strong.

"He is technically very strong, but also impresses with his head, with his intelligence.

"Initialy I told him to talk more and now he does, he is a leader."

It remains to be seen who will come out on top between Marseille and PSG at the Stade Velodrome but, whatever the scoreline, N’Koulou’s reputation looks set to continue growing.
