New Paris Saint-Germain full-back Gregory van der Wiel has criticised his own performances for the French giants, but stressed that he is still adapting to his new surroundings.

Van der Wiel moved to PSG from Dutch champions Ajax during the summer transfer window, offering genuine choice at right-back for coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The highly rated Holland international has seen the level of his performances for PSG at the Parc des Princes questioned though and he cannot help but agree that he can and should be doing better.

"This is not my real level, not the one I usually show", the 24-year-old told French daily Le Parisien.

"I am not pleased with myself", he continued.

"I can and should do more on the pitch, including in an attacking sense.

"It’s normal that I should speak about the criticism because it’s the highest level.

"But, I repeat, I am in a period of adapting."

Van der Wiel is expected to be in action for PSG this evening in the Champions League against Dynamo Kyiv.

He does face competition for his spot in the side though, with Christophe Jallet having produced a number of impressive performances in a PSG shirt. However, at present Jallet is out injured.
