Sydney FC Appoint Frank Farina To Guide Alessandro Del Piero and Co. Up A-League Standings

Wednesday, 28th November, 2012

Australian A-League club Sydney FC have appointed the experienced Frank Farina as their new coach, in succession to Ian Crook.

The 48-year-old inherits a side struggling in the A-League table, rooted to the bottom with just six points from eight games.

He will though have the likes of Alessandro Del Piero and Brett Emerton to call upon as he bids to guide Sydney up the league standings.

Farina boasts extensive experience of Australian football, with the coach’s most notable spell being a seven-year stint in charge of the country’s national side.

He had most recently been working with the Papua New Guinea national team.

"We believe Frank has the experience, leadership and coaching acumen to have a positive and immediate impact on Sydney FC", announced the club’s chairman Scott Barlow in a statement.

"He also brings with him a wealth of A-League coaching experience that will serve him well as he joins us part way through our season."

Farina arrives at Sydney already boasting a good relationship with the club’s assistant coaches, Steve Corica and Zeljiko Kalac, both of whom he played with and later coached with the Australia national team.

The new coach will take charge of Sydney against Melbourne Heart on Sunday; he has agreed a deal running until the end of the current campaign.
