Thibaut Courtois wants to stay at Atletico Madrid at least until the end of the season, the Belgian shot-stopper has stressed.

Courtois is currently on his second season-long loan at the Vicente Calderon, from English giants Chelsea, and there has been talk that new Blues boss Rafael Benitez could try to bring the former Genk man back to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.

However, if the Blues do try to bring Courtois back, they will not find the custodian willing, as he is loving life with Atletico Madrid and wants to stay.

"I would prefer to stay at Atletico Madrid because I can play almost all the games", he told Het Belang van Limburg.

"I feel good", he continued.

"It would be a squeeze to go to Chelsea just to sit on the bench and occasionally play in a cup match, especially with my position in the national team."

Courtois has excelled between the sticks for Atletico Madrid since joining the Spanish giants in the summer of 2011, helping the club to the Europa League last season.

Chelsea bought the Belgian from Genk and then sent him on loan to the Vicente Calderon to earn valuable first team experience in one of the world’s most competitive leagues.

The shot-stopper has been shortlisted for this year’s Golden Boy award, along with AC Milan star Stephan El Shaarawy and Malaga talent Isco, in another sign of the progress he has made.
