Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge Delighted To Keep Manchester United At Bay in UEFA Club Rankings

Friday, 7th December, 2012

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is delighted that the Germans have solidified their hold on second place in the UEFA club rankings, staying ahead of Manchester United and just behind Barcelona.

The German put BATE Borisov to the sword in the Champions League earlier this week, running out 4-1 winners and topping Group F in the process. Now they can look forward to the Round of 16 and a slightly more straightforward draw against a team which finished runners-up in another group.

There was another reason Rummenigge was happy to finish in top spot though and that is to help with Bayern Munich’s UEFA club ranking, which he sees as a sign of the progress the Bavarians have made.

Bayern Munich sit ahead of Manchester United, second on UEFA’s list, but behind Barcelona, who have a large lead, with 150.833 coefficient points, to the Germans’ 131.008.

Manchester United are breathing down Bayern Munich’s neck, with 128.535 points, while Real Madrid are fourth on 126.833. And keeping in front of the Red Devils is important to Rummenigge.

"The UEFA club ranking shows how consistent Bayern have become on an international level", he told his club’s official site.

"We have strengthened our current position of number two behind Barcelona, because the third ranked team, Manchester United, lost on Wednesday.

"I am very happy, because this is an honest ranking."
