Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi believes that the French giants won in style last night as they brushed aside Valenciennes 4-0 in Ligue 1.

Valenciennes always offer a difficult challenge for any side to face on their own turf and this season Daniel Sanchez’s men are enjoying a fine campaign, sitting fifth in the Ligue 1 table.

But PSG pushed past Valenciennes, running out 4-0 winners with Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring a hat-trick, while Ezequiel Lavezzi fired home the final goal of the evening.

The result moves PSG to within two points of league leaders Lyon, who they are due to face at the weekend in what looks a crunch match in the title race.

And for Matuidi there was much to be happy about in PSG’s performance.

"We’ve become aware of a lot of things lately and that really helped our confidence", the midfielder told Canal +.

"Everyone’s making an effort and the results are following on. Tonight, we won in style against an in-form opponent, and we need to keep up the good work.

"We’ll do our best to deliver the same kind of performance on Sunday against Lyon at the Parc. We really want to put on a show for our fans in that match."

The victory is PSG’s second successive 4-0 win following the weekend trashing of Evian at the Parc des Princes.

It also helps to relieve some of the pressure which has been building on coach Carlo Ancelotti, with PSG speculated to be looking at recruiting Jose Mourinho to replace the Italian.
