English Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester United have been placed on alert after highly-rated defender Jores Okore admitted he believes he is ready to play his football abroad.

Okore is rated as one of the most promising defenders in Denmark and currently turns out for the country’s champions FC Nordsjaelland. Both Liverpool and Manchester United, who have extensive contacts within the Scandinavian nation, have been mooted as watching his progress closely.

This season the 20-year-old was tested on the European stage, with Nordsjaelland in action in the Champions League – and despite the Danish outfit struggling, Okore did put in a number of mature performances.

Now Okore has given notice that he feels ready to move abroad, although he has been careful not to rock the Nordsjaelland boat.

"I am happy to be at Nordsjaelland", Okore told DR Sporten.

"But I think I am ready for a transfer.

"I want to play abroad."

Nordsjaelland will not be keen on losing Okore midway through the season, even though they look unlikely to be able to retain their title this year, sitting 12 points behind league leaders FC Copenhagen after 20 games.

The Danish league is now on a long winter break and Nordsjaelland have no European football to look forward to in the second half of the season, having finished bottom of their Champions League group.

Okore is under contract with Nordsjaelland until 2016.
