Chelsea have cooled their interest in Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo, according to Spanish daily AS.

The Blues had been linked with making a move for the Spain international, with a fee of €18M mooted as being ready to be paid to snap up the former Real Madrid B team player.

But with Demba Ba arriving at Stamford Bridge from Newcastle for a much cheaper fee compared to that which would have been needed to sign Negredo, Chelsea’s interest has been halted.

Sevilla are now confident of keeping hold of Negredo during the current transfer window in what is a big boost for coach Michel as he bids to steer Los Rojiblancos up the Spanish league from their disappointing current position of 14th.

Negredo was forced to leave Sevilla’s first training session of 2013 yesterday after picking up an ankle knock.

It is not thought likely to rule him out of the weekend clash against Osasuna however.

Negredo has scored eight goals in 15 La Liga games so far this season.
