English Premier League side Reading are interested in Nice midfielder Didier Digard, a player who has been central to coach Claude Puel’s team this season.

Digard has enjoyed a fine first half of the season on the French south coast, playing in all 19 of Nice’s Ligue 1 games so far and helping the team to a comfortable current placing of ninth.

And according to French sports daily L’Equipe, this has put Digard on the radar of Reading, who are looking to bolster their squad for the battle against relegation in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old is a product of Le Havre’s famed youth academy and was snapped up by Paris Saint-Germain from the club in 2007.

From there he had a taste of English football with Middlesbrough, before successive loan spells at Nice saw the French outfit make his move a permanent one in the summer of 2011.

Losing the 26-year-old would be a big blow for Puel, especially as he serves as the side’s captain.

Digard’s contract at Nice runs until 2014.
