Liverpool are particularly attentive to the progress of young full-back Lucas Digne at Lille, according to Mercato 365.

Digne is the great defensive hope of Rudi Garcia’s side, and part of the reason Lille were not too disheartened when Mathieu Debuchy was sold to Newcastle United earlier this month.

The 19-year-old has made rapid progress for Lille since making his debut last season.

A product of the club’s youth academy, Lille have locked down Digne on a long-term contract which runs until 2017, well aware that his talent has alerted other clubs.

The left-back has been a regular feature of the Lille side this season, making 15 appearances in Ligue 1 to date, while he also featured in five of the club’s Champions League group games.

And Digne’s development has not been lost on Liverpool.

The English giants are thought to be very keen on the young Frenchman, but will not bid for his services this month, instead only seriously considering a swoop during the summer.
