Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld has admitted that himself and Daley Blind do not know much about the club’s new signing Isaac Cuenca.

The Dutch champions swooped to sign the 21-year-old forward from Barcelona on loan until the end of the season on transfer deadline day.

The capture of Cuenca is something of a coup, given that the player is well regarded at the Camp Nou and chose Ajax ahead of English Premier League side Liverpool.

But, despite the fact that Cuenca played 16 times in La Liga for Barcelona last season, Alderweireld admits he is something of an unknown.

And so team-mate Blind did some internet research.

"Daley Blind looked him up on the internet and said I should too", the defender told Ajax Life.

"I’m curious. We can always use someone with his qualities.

"If a player comes from Barcelona to Ajax, he will be good."

Cuenca will not make his debut for Ajax today against VVV Venlo, with coach Frank de Boer wanting to put him through his paces in training first.

The Spaniard is though eligible to play for the Dutch champions in the Europa League, where they face Steaua Bucharest in the knockout phase.
