Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger thinks his squad believe they can finish in the top four this season.

Lacklustre form from the Gunners has left the top four race a very open affair, although yesterday’s 1-0 victory over Stoke City at the Emirates Stadium has moved Arsenal to within one point of a precious top four spot.

That gap could increase to four points if Tottenham can beat West Brom today but, importantly for Wenger, he feels his squad now have real belief and confidence that they can secure Champions League football for next season.

"I said before the West Ham game and the Liverpool game that we are in a position where we can’t drop points", Wenger told his club’s official site, before acknowledging that dropped points against Liverpool in midweek (the game ended 2-2) placed extra pressure on the Stoke result.

"What is more important is the quality of our performances is there, the spirit is there and the target to be in the top four is very important now because we have strengthened our belief and confidence", he added.

Wenger’s men next travel to face Sunderland on Saturday, before cup action returns with a vengeance.

Blackburn Rovers visit the Emirates Stadium on 16th February in the FA Cup, while on 19th February, Bayern Munich come to town for the first leg of Arsenal’s Round of 16 Champions League clash.
