Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova is keen to add Chelsea’s David Luiz to his squad for next season, according to Portuguese daily A Bola.

Vilanova is currently undergoing treatment for a tumour on his paratid gland, but has been in discussions with sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and has pointed out that the club’s defence needs reinforcing over the summer.

And the Barcelona coach is an admirer of Luiz, a player he would like to see at the Camp Nou.

Now the Blaugrana could investigate whether Luiz can be tempted from Stamford Bridge when the transfer window swings open again.

Chelsea snapped up Luiz from Benfica in the 2011 January transfer window, paying the Portuguese giants a fee of €25M to capture the Brazil international.

Luiz took time to settle at Stamford Bridge, but is now firmly established and helped Chelsea to win last season’s Champions League.

The 25-year-old has so far made 19 appearances in the Premier League for the Blues this season, while he was also an ever-present in their Champions League campaign.

Luiz is under contract at the club until 2017.
