Brazilian midfielder Anderson has revealed that he has tried to leave Manchester United several times, but has failed to do so.

The 24-year-old has been in and out of Sir Alex Ferguson’s starting line-up at Old Trafford, having failed to make himself indispensable to the 71-year-old tactician.

The season Anderson has so far started just four games in the Premier League, although he has featured three times in the Champions League, while a month was also missed due to a hamstring injury.

For the midfielder, his situation is a source of frustration and he has admitted that he has tried to leave the Red Devils.

"What can I say? My contract runs for three years and I have often tried to leave, but I never have", he told Globo Esporte.

International ambitions may be driving Anderson’s apparent unhappiness at Old Trafford.

The former FC Porto midfielder has not played for his country since 2008 and looks set to miss out on the 2014 World Cup, which Brazil will host, unless there is a dramatic turnaround in his situation.

It remains to be seen for just how much longer Anderson will stay with Manchester United.
