Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and club scout Gilles Grimandi were in Paris last week to meet with talented Auxerre forward Yaya Sanogo.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, the Gunners boss and his colleague met up with the 20-year-old and his entourage to discuss a possible future at the Emirates Stadium.

Wenger turned on the charm, explaining to Sanogo where he would fit into Arsenal’s future plans and stressed the club’s preference is for still bringing through promising youngsters.

Sanogo is just returning from over a year out, having suffered a double fracture to his tibia and fibula in September 2010.

He has burst back into action, bagging four goals in Auxerre’s 5-4 win over Laval and then a hat-trick in the club’s 3-2 victory over Tours at the start of February.

Sanogo is though being eased back, having complained of some muscle pain.

It is far from certain that Wenger will get his man, with the France Under-21 striker also firmly on Lille’s radar.

Sanogo’s current contract with Auxerre expires at the end of June, meaning there are sure to be other suitors too.

His return looks to have come too late to help Auxerre back into Ligue 1, which may influence his future decision.
