Napoli have firmly identified Internacional striker Leandro Damiao as their preferred replacement for Edinson Cavani, according to Italian daily Il Mattino.

The Azzurri are well aware that Cavani is a man in demand and an irresistible offer could well land on the club’s doormat during the summer.

Determined not to be left without a plan if this happens, Napoli have already thought about potential replacements for the Uruguayan hitman.

And top of the list is Brazil international Damiao.

The 23-year-old has been consistently chased by English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, who may rekindle their interest in the summer, potentially placing them in opposition to Napoli for the striker’s signature.

Napoli have received encouragement from Damiao’s agent that his client is prepared to move to Italy.

Internacional however will not part with the striker for any less than a substantial sum, believed to be well in excess of €20M.
