Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has blasted back at Rafael Benitez, who accused him of snubbing a pre-match handshake when the Red Devils met the Spaniard’s Chelsea in the FA Cup recently.

Benitez insisted he was waiting to shake Ferguson’s hand, as is the routine – but the 71-year-old didn’t show up.

Ferguson though has told Benitez that he feels he is speaking rubbish.

"It’s absolute nonsense", Ferguson told a press conference, via his club’s site.

"I didn’t see him", he added.

There is little love lost between Benitez and Ferguson, dating from Benitez’s time in charge of Liverpool between 2004 and 2010.

The two managers will face each other another two times this season, first in an FA Cup quarter-final replay and then in May in the Premier League.
