Liverpool are looking at potentially signing Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel, according to Tutto Mercato.

The Spaniard may have to be sacrificed by the Portuguese giants in the summer due to financial considerations and Liverpool are pondering putting in a bid.

Capel joined Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2011 from Spanish giants Sevilla, penning a five-year contract in a clear nod to just how highly rated he was by the Portuguese outfit.

The 25-year-old has been part of a thoroughly disappointing season for Sporting Lisbon this year though, with the club currently languishing in an unheard of tenth spot.

Capel has clocked up 19 appearances in the Portuguese Superliga for 2012/13, scoring two goals and providing three assists.

He has won two caps for Spain.
