Marseille midfielder Joey Barton, who is on loan from Queens Park Rangers for the season, has slammed Thiago Silva’s comments about the Englishman during his recent interview with France Football, calling the PSG defender “another overrated Brazilian”, among other offensive remarks on his Twitter page.

Thiago Silva, in an interview with France Football, said that Barton has failed to respect many people in football. “A lot of people criticise the Selecao”, Silva said. “There’s even this player from Marseille – I can’t remember his name – who speaks ill of Neymar, Brazilian football in general, as well as [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and [David] Beckham.”

The PSG centre-back flung more criticism at Barton, saying, “As nobody talks about him since people are more busy idolising the better players, he’s doing what he’s doing so we’ll know he’s there.

“It gives me more desire to win [for PSG], to silence him”, Silva added.

For his part, Barton quickly lashed out at Silva on his Twitter account, saying that the Brazilian defender is overrated. “Thiago Silva. That the same [expletive] that’s been injured all season. Another over rated [sic] Brazilian.

“Sort your hamstrings out FatBoy”, Barton added in his Tweet.

Barton has also aired his say on Neymar on the social media site last February, claiming that the Brazilian sensation isn’t worth anywhere near the money which is speculated as being needed to sign him and calling the Brazilian Serie A the “Amazon Jungle league”.
