Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson remains keen to snap up Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic this summer, despite the Portuguese giants only recently renewing the former Chelsea youngster’s contract.

According to Portuguese daily A Bola, the 71-year-old tactician has been swept off his feet by Matic and will pull out all the stops to sign the Serbian in good time for the 2013/14 campaign.

Benfica are well aware of not just Matic’s talents, but the attention he has been attracting from a number of sides.

And to that end they secured the 24-year-old on a contract running until 2018 recently, with a buyout clause set at a hefty €45M.

Matic arrived at the Estadio da Luz in the summer of 2011 from Chelsea, as part of the deal which took David Luiz to Stamford Bridge six months’ earlier; the midfielder was allowed to finish his season-long loan spell with Vitesse before landing in Lisbon.
