AC Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari is adamant that his side’s draw against Napoli yesterday at the San Siro brought them a crucial point in their race for the top two spot.

Former Arsenal and Marseille man Mathieu Flamini handed the Rossoneri the lead with a shot on target in the 30th minute, but Napoli quickly repsponded with a goal from Goran Pandev to level the scores. From then, both sides would struggle to finish their chances. Despite Flamini being sent off in the 72nd minute, Napoli were not able to capitalise and the game ended with a draw.

The draw leaves both teams as they were before the match, with Milan in third place on 59 points and Napoli in second with 63.

"We wanted the win at all costs [but] it’s an important point for us", Muntari told AC Milan’s official site. "We did everything to win this game [but the race for second] is not over yet."

The Ghana international added that his side will strive to get into the top two as their side battle for automatic Champions League qualification. "Our aim is to get to second place. We’ll be fighting until the end of the campaign. We still believe and we’ll be doing everything we can to get to second place."

Massimiliano Allegri’s men now have a tough fixture ahead of them next week as clash against runaway league leaders Juventus looms, but Muntari said he has faith his side will see the match through.

"Now we have to look forward – we have the match against Juventus. Our defence [is] well and the team is in good shape, I have faith. The game against Juve is a big one for us and we’ll try and do well."
