Raphael Varane has thanked former Real Madrid and French great Zinedine Zidane, as well as club manager Jose Mourinho, for giving him a chance to play for Los Blancos.

The 19-year-old signed with the Spanish heavyweights in the summer of 2011. Varane gained plaudits when he appeared in El Clasico in January this year, where he put in an impressive show in defence and subsequently was hailed as the man of the match.

"It has all been thanks to Zizou and Mourinho”, the defender told the official UEFA magazine.
