Real Madrid have an iron-grip on defender Raphael Varane, with the Spanish giants having inserted a €200M release clause into the French international’s contract, according to L’Equipe.

Varane has found himself climbing up the Real Madrid ranks quickly since signing from French side RC Lens in the summer of 2011. This season, he has already made 30 appearances for the club in all competitions, turning out in all but one of Los Blancos’ Champions League matches along the way.



The 19-year-old’s trusty defensive abilities have gained plaudits from various personalities in the footballing world, including fellow French internationals Laurent Koscielny and Hugo Lloris.

The increased spotlight on Varane has also seen him linked with a number of clubs, including Manchester United.

But Real Madrid have Varane signed up to the perfect contract to keep suitors away.

Indeed, the Spanish giants have placed a €200M release clause in Varane’s contract – a price that is surely designed to keep other clubs at bay.

Varane’s deal with the defending La Liga champions runs until 2017.
