Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes that the Gunners are far closer to Manchester United’s level than the current gap of 21 points between his team and Sir Alex Ferguson’s outfit suggests.

The Gunners currently sit third in the Premier League, with 63 points from 34 games, while Manchester United have already wrapped up the title and sit top, with 84 points from 34 games.

Wenger’s men are well adrift of the Red Devils, but ahead of the clash between the two teams this afternoon, the Frenchman has stated his belief that his men can certainly compete with the champions.

"We have a game that is based on collective expression so it’s difficult to compare man-to-man", Wenger told his club’s official site.

"At the moment, we are 20 points behind and that is linked with our bad start to the season but mainly to the fact that against the big clubs, we did not do well", he continued.

"Then I can tell you that in Germany, Dortmund are 20 points behind Bayern Munich and they just beat Real Madrid 4-1.

"The same people that say ‘you are 20 points behind’ are the same that say Dortmund is the best team in Europe."
