Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is casting his eye in the direction of talented Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are keen to keep hold of the former Nurnberg starlet and are pushing to extend his contract until 2017; it is currently due to expire in 2015.

However, according to Tutto Mercato, Ferguson is ready to move to convince Gundogan to swap Dortmund for the Red Devils, following in the footsteps of Shinji Kagawa last summer.

Gundogan has been in impressive form for Klopp’s men in the current campaign, helping the Ruhr giants to reach the final of this season’s Champions League.

The 22-year-old has made eleven appearances in Europe’s top club competition so far, while he has turned out 25 times in the Bundesliga for Dortmund.

Gundogan is also a fixture on the international scene, with seven caps for Germany under his belt for coach Joachim Low.

It remains to be seen whether the midfielder will be open towards the prospect of moving to Old Trafford.

However, with money to spend this summer, Manchester United could make Dortmund and Gundogan a compelling offer.
