English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are be preparing a swoop for Barcelona’s blazing winger Cristian Tello should they lose star asset Gareth Bale this summer, according to Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo.

If statistics are the sole basis, Tello has done significantly less that Bale this season. True enough, the Spaniard has clocked up eight goals and six assists at club level this season. The Welshman, meanwhile, has 25 goals and 15 assists.

Despite the stark difference in achievements, Tello has proven himself a hot prospect for the future considering his young age of 21, and that potential is what Spurs are looking to tap into during the summer.

But the Premier League club may find bargaining with Barcelona a tough task, as it is thought that the Catalan giants are not willing to sell Tello at all, if they can help it.

Still, with cash to spend if ever they sell Bale, Spurs may submit a substantial offer for Tello which could give Barcelona serious pause for thought.

Tello’s contract with Barcelona sees him tied at the Camp Nou until the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

The winger has previously interested English clubs, with Liverpool having pushed to sign him last summer, before the Spaniard committed his future to Barcelona.
