Spain manager Vicente del Bosque has insisted that goalkeeper Iker Casillas will be included in his 23-man squad for the upcoming FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.

The 31-year-old Real Madrid shot-stopper has been overlooked by Los Blancos since making a recovery from a finger injury. Club manager Jose Mourinho has instead preferred to start with Diego Lopez.

However, the lack of game time with the Madrid giants has not dented the Spain skipper’s chances in the national team.

“We respect Casillas and his whopping 143 appearances with the national team over the years”, Del Bosque was quoted as saying by Portuguese daily A Bola.

“We’ll see if his lack of game time at Real Madrid will have any bearing on him, but it is certain that Iker will be among the 23 players who go to the Confederations Cup.”

The Spanish boss also hit back at Mourinho in a subtle way for his decision not to hand a first team place to the Spanish custodian since his recovery in April.

“Casillas is a child of Real Madrid, a boy who grew up in the club and he did not cost a cent. If a child has made mistakes, they deserve to be forgiven. This is actually the way it is done.”

The Spanish number one, who arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu in 1990 as a youth player, has made 19 La Liga appearances this season.
