David Beckham has saluted Paris Saint-Germain as he bids farewell to the French champions, hanging up his boots after a long and illustrious career.

The former England captain announced his retirement from football last week and closed the book on his playing adventure last night at the Parc des Princes, when PSG beat Brest 3-1 in Ligue 1.

Despite PSG having a further game to play this season, away at Lorient, Beckham is not expected to feature.

And the 38-year-old left with kind words for PSG, being reduced to tears as he left the pitch in the second half; Beckham had been handed the captain’s armband for the night and was substituted in the 80th minute.

The midfielder was moved by the occasion and had special words for PSG, a side he joined in January.

"I have a feeling of happiness because we are champions", Beckham told reporters.

"I have ended my career with a team that have great supporters, a great team.

"It’s always hard to leave a club and it’s even harder now because it is the end of my career."
