Juventus and Real Madrid have agreed a deal in principle for Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuain, according to Italian daily La Repubblica.

Higuain has been targeted by, among others, Premier League side Arsenal, but it is The Old Lady who seem close to signing the striker on a four-year deal.

Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta and sporting director Fabio Paratici were in Madrid on Wednesday to meet with Higuain and his agent.

The talks seem to have gone positively enough with only the terms of the deal remaining to be confirmed.

However, the financial question has not been sorted out yet, with Real Madrid asking for €30M for the 120-goal player and Juventus offering €22M.

Marotta, though, has secured a "yes" verdict from the Argentine – under contract at Real Madrid until 2016 – who despite injury problems this season managed 26 league appearances and scored 14 times.

The deal is expected to be confirmed by mid-June, in what is seen as an important step towards European success for the Serie A champions.
