Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is keen to hold on to club talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, and he has stated that the Portuguese will be made the best paid player in the world at Los Blancos.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena SER about a contract renewal for the former Manchester United winger, the 66-year-old said that he will do everything to ensure that the 28-year-old remains at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“I want to make him the best paid player in the world”, he said.

Ronaldo’s current contract with the nine-time European Champions runs until June 2015, and he has been widely linked with a move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain, or a return to Manchester United this summer.

Perez insisted that he does not know anything about the reported interest from PSG for the Portuguese skipper, and also explained that Ronaldo went through a rough patch during the 2012/13 season, but he was not ‘sad’ at the club.

“I don’t know if he had an offer from PSG.

“When we spoke, I told him that we would do everything in our power to ensure that he wasn’t sad. He went through a rough patch, and that’s that.

“After that, he has been exceptional.”

The former Sporting Lisbon youth player has made a total of 62 appearances for his club and country this season, scoring 58 times, and assisting 17 times.
