Arsenal skipper Thomas Vermaelen has insisted that he is happy at the North London outfit.

The 27-year-old former Ajax centre-back has been linked with leaving the Gunners are slipping out of the starting eleven during the final part of the 2012/13 campaign.



Club manager Arsene Wenger preferred to start with defenders Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker in the heart of the Gunners defence, and the Belgian was benched in the final six games for the Gunners.

“I am happy at Arsenal”, Vermaelen told Sporza.

"Things can change quickly. I quickly found myself on the bench but the opposite can also be true, if I work hard for it.

"These are things that happen in professional football Arsenal is a great club and there are obviously a lot of competition and it is not easy to start in every game."

Vermaelen arrived at the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2009. He was also named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season after his first campaign at the club, where he also contributed eight goals.

He made a total of 39 appearances for Wenger’s side this campaign and also scored once.

The former Germinal Beerschot youth player has a contract with the Premier League club until June 2015.
